The Power Octopus

You know when you have eight different things plugged into a single wall outlet? That's called an octopus. It seems like these days in IT everyone is pointing at their own energy octopus and wondering how to solve the problem. Treehugger has had it with screen savers and phantom power. Worldchanging is taking on servers, and Gomeler is concentrating on the boards themselves. Some even are concerned about our power usage and health. It's pretty clear that some folks are sick of talking about it, and are hungry for action.

Here's my advice; follow the old adage of reduce, reuse, recycle. With about 80 percent of the total energy used going into just making the computer, and most machines being capable of being used for six years, that will make quite a dent. For starters.
