Matt Stansberry over at searchdatacenter has a nice report on some hardware vendors and utilities teaming up to reduce the electricity costs related to computing. Sounds very.... green. One of the notable hookups is Pacific Gas and Electric teaming with Sun Microsystems - customers get rebates if they use Sun's T1000 and T2000 servers in their data centers. HP also has a similar 80plus program if you use energy efficient power supplies, which are generally the biggest power vampires in any computer system. I like the synergy here, let's hope we see more of these strange bedfellows.
