I just installed Linux on a desktop yesterday. We had this old Windows server that wouldn't boot any more, so I thought I would give the old Ubuntu a try. I installed it and it immediately worked, first time!Certainly Linux on the desktop is the future - it's too easy, it's too easy to maintain, it runs on modest hardware requirements, etc. This post has the definitive discussion as to why its not there already.
